This is an ode to my mother, who made me what I am.
When the scalpel sliced ,
Through the umbilical cord,
And the warm liquid oozed,
She knew not whose blood shed,
She hurt.
When elbows scraped,
And knees grazed,
The skin raw through the bruise,
She knew not whose plasma seeped,
She hurt.
Heavy books and late night toil,
Assignment deadlines met,
Eyes to the blue screen glued,
She knew not whose sweat poured,
She hurt.
And the warm liquid oozed,
She knew not whose blood shed,
She hurt.
When elbows scraped,
And knees grazed,
The skin raw through the bruise,
She knew not whose plasma seeped,
She hurt.
Heavy books and late night toil,
Assignment deadlines met,
Eyes to the blue screen glued,
She knew not whose sweat poured,
She hurt.
Finally striding into the world,
A fine confident specimen,
Apron strings cut loose,
She knew whose tears rolled,
She smiled !
Beautiful expression of essence of motherhood!

DeleteVery touching account of the journey of a child from the umbilical chord to the matured life under the shadow of love, affection and care of mother! God could not present himself everywhere. So he created Mother, a creation even greater than Himself. Congratulations! Keep writing.

Copying and pasting my father's comments from WA as he is couldn't get past the technicalities of a blog.
ReplyDeleteYour poem has ďeeply touched my heart. Vishwamohan has rightly said that mother is the reincarnation of God on the èarth. Iam reminded of the shortest story in the world on mother. À beloved asked his lover that if he really loved her he should bring ,her mother 's hèart to me.Mad in love he cut off her hèartand ran to his beloved. While running he dashed against a stone. The heart fell on the earth and the sound
emitted in emotion choked voice" Beta chot to nahi lagi "That is mother.
❤️💕💝💗
DeleteThe above heart-wrenching had come down to me by my grandmother which I diligently passed on to my kids...I hope it should go on by the word of mouth..

DeleteExcellent poem, Rashmi! ❤️It has been rightly said that poetry is for the heart, not for the head. From one mother to another, expressing gratitude, for mother’s giving nature. It’s not an easy job to put into words how much our mothers mean to us…..A soulful tribute to your mother👌🏻👌🏻
